My 13th 35mm lens

I haven't written reviews for ages and the gear change is always exciting experience hence it pushed me to write couple words about my new Voigtlander 35mm f2.0 Ultron!

As you probably know me and my wife photograph together, a bit less weddings now and we're more focused on streetphoto and documentary project we went through many 35mm lenses. Let me list what we used:

  • Nikon Nikkor 35mm 1.8G DX
  • Sigma 35mm 1.4 DG HSM
  • Canon 35mm L (twice!)
  • Fujifilm 23mm f2.0 WR
  • Fujifilm X100T (with 23mm - 35mm equivalent)
  • Canon 35mm RF 1.8
  • Sony Zeiss FE 35mm f2.8
  • Sony FE 35mm f1.8
  • Samyang 35mm f1.4 II
  • Leica Summilux 35mm 1.4 (pre-asph.)
  • Leica Summicron 35mm f2.0
  • Voigtlander 35mm f1.2 v.II
  • Voigtlander 35mm f2.0 v.I Ultron

From this list I own 3 lenses - Canon L and both Voigtlanders. Each lens is different and has their very own magical powers but flaws as well. I think one lens from the list requires extra attention and that is Sony Zeiss 35mm f2.8 Sonnar. This is a phenomenal piece of glass with the rendering I personally love. It has its Zeiss feeling. Unfortunately we got rid of Sony system when compared colors with Canon and Leica. If anybody can advise which lens adaptable for Leica M or Canon R has similar rendering I will be grateful.

WHY 35mm?

To my impression 35mm gives the best angle, compression and geometry from all the lenses. We extensively used Leica Q which is phenomenal and maybe we buy it back, however 35mm looks more practical. 40mm has slightly different compression and plans separation. The main argument I am not keen on 40mm (Like famous Nokton 40 f1.4 ) is lack of 40mm framelines in my rangefinder camera.

USE

Pure pleasure.
